Thus, if Skybound can afford to make several books for the Joes, a revived Beast Wars shouldn't be out of the question. Joe hasn't had any cultural relevance since the '80s, whereas Beast Wars revived the Transformers brand in the 1990s. That's especially the case given that G.I. While the real American heroes definitely have a loyal fanbase, it's also inarguable that Transformers is by far the more popular franchise. This allowed Hama to pick up where he started, and that's now happening again at Skybound/Image. Over the years, there had been appearances by characters from Beast Wars in different Transformers cartoons and toylines, but the general premise and aesthetic of the so-called "Beast Era" had been long dropped following the ending of the controversial Beast Machines: Transformers. Transformers: Beast Wars by Erik Burnham and Josh Burcham was the first major retelling/reboot of the Beast Wars. This wouldn't reach the same heights as IDW's previous handling of the brand, but one of the company's books would. Poor attempts at a Hasbro shared universe of comics derailed the story, and it eventually saw IDW reboot the book. The monthly comic books would continue to sell and be beloved by fans, though the crown did eventually begin to slip. This included stories such as The Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers, which is still considered one of the best stories to come out of the franchise. When IDW took over the publication rights to the Transformers comic book license, many of the comic books for the brand were incredibly well-received.
